Important Cannabis Research is Still Happening, Despite the Pandemic
Even though there is a global pandemic, there is still important cannabis research happening. Several clinical trials occur between March and May. Here are the details.
It’s one of the things we say often – even though cannabis is widely accepted to have medicinal value, we still need to see more research happen. Surprisingly, there have been 179 important cannabis research trials that happened between the months of March and May, according to the US registry ClinicalTrials.com. Several have been put on pause, but there are still many still recruiting participants. So why the need for these clinical trials? The answer is unsurprising.
Why Important Cannabis Research is Necessary Now
COVID-19 lockdowns are being lifted and counties nationwide, but stress and anxiety related to the pandemic is still commonplace. It’s proven that cannabis can help treat anxiety disorders as well as relieve stress. People are losing jobs, struggling to pay bills, businesses are closing, not to mention the risk of the virus itself. This was distressing to people, to begin with, then this was amplified by the social unrest due to the George Floyd murder. The COVID-19 has caused an enormous amount of stress on many people, and cannabis medicine can help.
Specific Studies Happening
The two locations that have been conducting some of the most studies on cannabis are Australia and New Zeland. Aussie MMA fighters participated in a study that looked at whether cannabis medicine could potentially treat brain injuries, specifically CTE. MedLab Clinical conducted a study regarding specific pain caused by cancer, and Zelira conducted one involving cannabis for treating insomnia. Both studies were successful in phase one, and will move on with further research later this year. Perhaps the most interesting study happening in 2020 was done by AusCann. They studied pharmacokinetics, or the way a drug works in the body – specifically cannabis. Even though the restrictions and lockdowns caused by COVID-19 have messed everything up for people worldwide, it’s great to see that studies like this one are still happening. We need to see more like them, because there is so much that we still don’t know about cannabis and its many benefits.
