Smoking vs Edibles: Ways of Ingesting Cannabis
Cannabis edibles are awesome, but I’m not going to lie. I love to smoke too, and I always relish in the event that I have the opportunity to pass along a joint with some friends.
But there is something to marijuana edibles that smoking can’t match. In my years of experience with cannabis, I have to say that edibles are my preferred way to go.
High Comparison b/w Edibles and Smoking
Consuming edibles can take between 45 minutes and three hours for THC to be metabolized. It takes longer to feel the effects of THC because it must be absorbed and metabolized. However, when you smoke weed, the THC almost immediately reaches the brain. This means you’ll feel high almost immediately, but since THC is absorbed quickly, your high will last shorter than with edibles.
Some people are quickly turned off from edibles because they have an initial bad experience. I’ve also been in this position myself of taking more than I can handle. The fact is, if you’re not aware of how the devil’s lettuce can be in edible form, you might be on a ride that you might not be prepared for.
There are so many benefits to getting high on edibles, and that’s why this is my preferred method.
Here are some of my reasons for preferring cannabis edibles over smoking!
Edibles Last Longer
Oftentimes, when you smoke the high wears off after a couple of hours depending on how much you consume. The cool thing with edibles though is that you can just take a small dose and still feel the effects for a few hours. Edibles are great at the right dose for treating anxiety, depression, or insomnia. Yes, smoking weed can also help with these issues, but I find edibles to be more effective in this regard.
Cannabis in Edible Form is Incognito
Edibles are wonderful because most people will have no idea you’re stoned unless you’re just acting ridiculous. I’m not really one to care if other people want to judge my cannabis habit, but still, when you use edibles it can help to manage your possible paranoia when no one can smell any residual smoke.
Cannabis Edibles Might be a Lower Health Risk
Many people are turned off from marijuana due to the smoking factor. But with edibles, this is a great solution to the problem.
While there might be some who still claim cannabis use is dangerous in all forms there is enough research to conclude that the risks are very minimal. With the exception of mental health risks for those with pre-existing conditions, the only health hazard you’ll experience if using cannabis in edible form is temporary short-term memory loss. After abstaining for a few days, the majority of people will have their short-term memory back to normal.
Cannabis Edibles Are a Blast!
Sure, smoking is a lot of fun in its own way. It’s certainly a more social approach than edibles in many ways. And as I said earlier, edibles can really knock you off your feet if you don’t know how to dose them properly.
However, there is something I love about getting incredibly stoned on edibles. It’s a totally unique experience from smoking, and the high is totally different.
The feeling is not really a gradual come-up like edibles when you smoke. You take a few hits, and then almost immediately after you feel stoned. Cannabis edibles are unique from smoking in this aspect. In my experience, the come-up of the high is a slow process, but when it finally hits you it can be otherworldy. It is not unfound to have an out-of-body experience.
There’s nothing better than sitting outside on a nice summer day when the edibles are in your system at full force. It feels much more psychedelic than smoking. You’re almost always for sure going to feel enhanced creativity. Sometimes depending on the environment, I will start hearing music and instruments playing very vividly in my head and it provides me with the perfect inspiration to compose some music.
Conclusion
Being high on edibles has inspired me with some really cool ideas. Last summer I injured myself while hiking on the Appalachian Trail. One of the last trail towns I stopped in was Great Barrington, Massachusetts where I bought some flower and THC tincture from a dispensary called Theory Wellness.
Despite my injury, my journey wasn’t over. I took almost half the bottle and got the crazy idea to take a road trip all the way to California.
People say cannabis has extraordinary mind-expanding capabilities. In my experience, especially with edibles, this is definitely true. There’s no telling what wild Ideas will come your way if you decide to partake in edibles as well!
