When Marijuana Meets Running: The Powerful effects of Exercising High
Imagine this: You’re mid-run, you’ve finally managed to push through and reach the mystical “runner’s high.” But that’s not enough, you continue down the trail, whip out a fat-ass blunt and take a big toke. While you’re already high from pushing through exhaustion, you also want to be running while high too — you want the coveted double high.
Well, here are a few things to know before journey down the rabbit hole of getting high while running:
- You don’t need to smoke while you’re actually running. It just seems way more fun to watch a runner take out a lighter and scramble to get his joint lit.
- Running while experiencing an actual high does have some nutty effects that will interest both the stoner-athlete and lazy pothead.
Sure, running while high sounds great on paper but let’s hear from some people who do it, and discuss some tips before your enlightenment.
Weed and Exercise: Meet The Athletes Who Do it
Brian Kaho is an acclaimed trainer, and one of the biggest supporters of working out high. His upbeat, pot-positive Instagram account: @weedoutbadvibes promotes breathing techniques and workouts for both stoners and non-stoners alike.
In an interview with “Runners World,” Kaho opened up about his obsessions with marijuana and exercise.
“This holistic approach helps clients pinpoint problems and truly focus on the body,” said Kaho. “Everyone knows they’re supposed to eat organic produce and organic meat, but you gotta ask yourself, are your workouts organic? Are your workouts green?”
In an interview with the Thrillist, another fitness enthusiast, Jasmine, a smoke shop owner echoed the same sentiments as Kaho. Four years ago, she lost 60lbs after making serious diet changes. However, Jasmine was only able to get into exercising when she smoked beforehand:
“No matter what anyone tells you, running is very uncomfortable,” she says. “It’s a constant battle to keep yourself moving forward. Long story short, I hated running. And I happen to know that marijuana is a great way to get myself to do the things I don’t really want to do.”
Running While High: Tips to Get Started
You won’t know if something is for you until you give it a try. Sure, when you get blazed it’s easy to want to lay on the couch, watch some Adult Swim, and eat through five bags of potato chips.
But mixing it up and trying to move around while high might be something you’re missing out on. After all, being productive while buzzed is how some of our favorite artists came up with their best work.
1. Sativa Gets You Movin’
So my first piece of advice: Ditch the Indica and start buying some Sativa.
Sativa will get you in a creative headspace and ready to move. Unlike Indica which makes you want to lay down and relax.
2. Pace Yourself – Really
Also, keep in mind that running will be tough at first. No matter the strain you use you’re still not going to want to run out there on the roads. You have to fight through it because it’s worth it to combine both highs.
3. Stay Hydrated!!!
Invest in a camelbak to stay hydrated while out on the roads and pack some snacks. Running while high will feel difficult at first, but I promise you, if you push through you will experience an enlightening sensation.
