Tom Brady Smoked Weed: The GOAT (Greatest of All Tokers)
Come to find out my favorite athlete of all time, Tom Brady, is not unfamiliar with the good old sticky icky. Tom Brady admitted on Howard Stern this week that he had smoked weed in high school. Although, admittedly not a lot.
This doesn’t come as a total surprise to me. Brady was already well-known for his legendary beer chugging skills. Knowledge that The Goat let loose years before the days of TB12 and avocado ice cream is not ground breaking. I also don’t want to imply that I think Tom Brady was ever part of #Mmemberville or #StonerFam.
Northern Cali in the 1990’s
It did make me pause and reflect about how Tom Brady and weed connected back in the day. He went to San Mateo High School in California in the mid 1990’s. I imagine he was somewhat popular due to his athletic status. Was Brady pressured to partake after chugging beers at a super-human rate? Perhaps the lead singer of the local teen grunge band came through with some Northern Lights? Was he crushing on a patchouli wearing hippie chick and trying to impress? Did Brady then partake in the sweet British Columbian import? Being in Norther Cali in the 90’s, I wouldn’t be surprised at any of these! The world can only wonder. Of course, I’m just speculating. I’m impressed that Brady admitted it on Stern.
The Social Acceptance of Cannabis
The fact that Tom Brady admitted smoking weed in such a public forum isn’t a surprise. It does show that stigma around marijuana is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Politicians were getting BJs’ from interns but would not admit to inhaling cannabis during the years Brady was in high school. Strange times indeed.
Brady is now focused on health and wellness more than winning championships. Sorry Bucs’ fans. His reasons for not using weed more were legitimate, and we respect that. However, with social acceptance comes opportunity. Would TB12 eventually incorporate cannabis medicine into their regimen? Unlikely. But to the chagrin of some, cannabis is here to stay and is growing into the mainstream lexicon of America. Bud is the new Bud. It’s becoming as American as the Patriots winning Super Bowls.
Why Tampa? Why?
I mean, WHYYYYYYY?
I admit, I am still a little jaded about Brady’s departure to sunny Florida, like so many retirees before him. I’ll get over it. To be honest this was the most enjoyable part of the interview for me. I’m hoping that maybe TB12 starts to carry some CBD or medical marijuana products in the future so I can recover from the PTSD of him leaving. Hopefully, Tom Brady just introduces his own weed strain like many rappers now that he’s a blingy Floridian.
More Loud on Sports
The world of cannabis and sports collide on a regular basis. We recently covered how former GOAT, Joe Montana invested substantially in the cannabis industry. And of course, sh!tting on the NFL’s archaic weed policy was something we did month’s ago. Although, recently that seems to have changed for the better in the latest CBA.
