Staying Productive with Cannabis
by Justin May
As more people gain knowledge of the cannabis industry and stigmas slowly start to fade away, one of the biggest stereotypes is beginning to fall to the waste side; the lazy stoner. We’ve seen this stereotype all too often in pop culture. Stuck on the couch after a fresh bong rip, ready to grab some potato chips and play Fortnite into the early hours of the morning. Sound familiar? However, there is no reason to not be productive with cannabis use.
Thankfully, the above mentioned “stoner” stereotype is becoming a thing of the past. However, cannabis can be used to increase alertness, focus, and ultimately productivity as a whole. The shift in culture has led to jobs being more lenient with drug testing especially with many employees working remote during this time. More and more managers are allowing their workers freedom to do whatever allows them to be most productive.
With that in mind, there are several ways to keep productivity high while enjoying cannabis. From choosing the appropriate strain to simply remaining healthy and active, there are a variety of ways to ensure you’re productive while consuming. In this article we’ll take a look at 5 of those factors to consider when planning a cannabis inspired work day or creative session.
Choosing the Right Strain
While medicated, the first step to staying productive is identifying the right strain for both your work needs and personal preference. Avoid Indica strains that are known to knock you on your back and into the couch. However, pure sativa strains may cause anxiety and panic attacks, which certainly won’t help your productivity. For peak productivity, look towards sativa-dominant strains that provide energy and an uplifting high that increase both your focus and creativity. Two of the most well known sativa-dominant strains, Sour Diesel and Jack Herer, should get the job done.
Stay Organized
We’re all guilty of being a little unorganized at times, due to cannabis involved or otherwise. However, when consuming and working at the same time it’s important to make sure you’re all locked in and ready to go. You should clearly define your tasks that day, or during the duration of your experience, prior to consuming. Create and adhere to a to-do list as much as possible to maintain organization and keep the productivity levels sky high. Make sure your work is prioritized with more time and effort spent on high-priority tasks. Stay organized! It can be easy to get distracted and lose track of your goals.
Try Microdosing
In order to remain productive, understanding your tolerance level is crucial. If two hits from the bong puts you on your back, stick to one! There’s no worse feeling than getting your hopes up for an amazing smoking experience, only to over consume and crash. Not only do you miss out on enjoying the experience, but you’ve likely cost yourself productivity time and possibly missed deadlines. Microdosing can solve this issue by allowing you to manage the amount of THC and/or CBD you consume. Micro-doses of THC have been found to reduce anxiety, sharpen cognition, improve working memory, and increase energy. All qualities that can lead to a better work session.
Set Goals
Just like staying organized, setting goals prior to working is one of the keys to remaining productive while consuming. When we set out and later achieve goals, our confidence and motivation boost. This is what brings about high productivity. Cannabis can increase these factors by relieving stress and anxiety prior to working, making it easier to gain confidence and motivation in your work. Take full advantage of this by creating a list of goals with dates and deadlines that you can adhere to while working. By creating a schedule to focus on, you can avoid the distractions that often accompany the resulting high.
Stay Healthy!
One of the most under appreciated aspects of remaining productive is simply being in good health and good spirits. Whether it be mental or physical health, a slip in either can lead to a huge decrease in both personal and professional productivity. The human brain requires hydration in order to operate at full function. With the ability of cannabis to dehydrate at times, it’s important to drink water and eat healthy at all times. Also, overeating can cause fatigue and put you to sleep just like a powerful Indica. Keep light snacks, and bring along a bottle of water to keep your workday flowing smoothly.
There are plenty of reasons to enjoy cannabis, but don’t be concerned that cannabis will slow you down. Keep in mind these approaches to remain active and productive with cannabis.
