Are Social Media “Influencers” Harming the Cannabis Community?
Cannabis social media influencers can be beneficial for spreading the message of legalization. But are they doing more harm than good? A short and sweet exploration.
If you ever sign into Instagram and checked out some cannabis accounts, you’ll no doubt run into some people consuming weed. We’ve covered how social media platforms have banned brands from advertising, but personal accounts are still fine. And those personal accounts are out there. Many people are sharing some fun positive and informative content, like us here at Loud News.
Social Media Influencers – Who Are They?
It’s easy to call yourself a social media influencer. Those who actually are might be up for debate. For all of the good people sharing positive messages, there are those who smoke 3-foot blunts, toke on punch bowl-sized bongs, and roll arm-sized joints with shatter as the paper. Don’t get me wrong it looks cool obviously, and there’s a reason they get so many views.
Social Media Influencers – Good or Bad?
But many of these extravagant social media famous folks aren’t patient advocates obtaining medicine, or activists helping to advance the cause… I’m not hating, I’ve just interacted with so many patients who legitimately need cannabis medicine and have little to no access to it – especially in illegal states. This kind of social media behavior feels like a waste. And it might negatively impact fringe voters who are on the fence about legalization.
But what do you think? Do social media influencers do more harm than good? Let us know!
