Best shows on Netflix and Hulu
As we plow forward during this quarantine period, a popular question that everyone asks is “watch any good shows or movies lately?” To which I reply, why yes! I sure have. There’s a ton of COVID-19 content out there, with plenty of such quality content right here on our site. The way I see it, we are inundated with this content on a daily, so I am looking for a bit of a distraction with self-isolating, staying clean, disinfecting everything, and practicing social distancing. If you’re looking for that kind of content too, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve got you covered with the best streaming shows for April 2020 you don’t want to sleep on.
For this list, I am basing this off on the shows and movies that stick out to me. I never checked out Disney+, so I am not including that on this list at this time. I also only had a free trial month of Amazon Prime Video, so there’s only so much time in the day to watch content. You also won’t be finding Tiger King, Handmaidens Tale, Game of Thrones, or any other shows that are super-popular. There is enough content online talking those shows to death. Without further ado, here’s what I think are the best streaming shows for April 2020 that people might be sleeping on.
I suppose I should add a spoiler alert here, but I am just giving an overview of each show and movie, and not giving away too much of the plots.
Best Streaming Shows on Hulu
Hulu offers a variety of series, from sitcoms to dramas, thrillers, documentaries, anime, and adult animated comedies. The top shows on Hulu include some of the most prestigious and binge-worthy series out there. There’s so much on Hulu to choose from that it can be difficult to decide what to watch next, so here are some of the best Hulu shows to watch right now.
Futureman
This is an underrated show for sure. It mixes time travel with comedy, witty scriptwriting, and tons of action. It starts with video-game characters turned real-life warriors Wolf and Tiger showing up in the bedroom of janitor and gamer Josh Fetterman. Fetterman starts the show off with living with his parents and goes through a life-changing transition while traveling through time with Wolf and Tiger. If you’re a little blazed while watching this show, you might have to re-watch some episodes of this Hulu original.
Letterkenny
I loved this show way before the quarantine started, and I often play it in the background while I am working. I think this gem coming from Ontario, Canada is the funniest show on Hulu. It follows the lives of best buds and good old boys Wayne, Daryl, and Daniel, and Wanye’s sister Katie. Letterkenny is a fictional small farming town that is inspired by Jared Keeso who plays Wayne. There are three different kinds of folks in Letterkenny – hicks, skids, and hockey players. They all get into their hilarious moments, including this one right here where the hicks make fun of people from LA.
WWE
I cut cable a long time ago because the only thing I ever watch is NFL games and WWE shows like Smackdown. With a Hulu subscription, you can catch every WWE show the day after it aired live. With no other live sporting events taking place at the moment, WWE is helping to pick up the slack for many fans like us.
Big Time Adolescence
This funny Hulu original flick follows twenty-something college dropout Zeke and his adventures with his best bud, the innocent teenager Monroe. The two became inseparable pals when Zeke was dating Mo’s sister and Mo idolized him. Mo eventually gets too big for his britches, getting himself into some pretty big trouble. The movie might remind all of us about growing up and the stupid mistakes we made. The most notable cast in this flick includes SNL cast member Pete Davidson and seemingly lifelong typecast dorky dad Jon Cryer, formerly from the popular sitcom Two and a Half Men.
Best Streaming Shows on Netflix
Netflix is the best show when it comes to streaming movies and shows. Netflix offers its subscribers a massive library full of tense thrillers, hilarious sitcoms, family-friendly programs, and a wide range of original and classic series. So if you’re looking for shows to watch on Netflix? Look no further, because we have put together some of the best original Netflix series available to stream right now.
Trailer Park Boys
There has been much discussion as to which Candian comedy streaming series is funnier – the aforementioned Letterkenny VS Trailer Park Boys. My answer is – why not both? TPB got its start back in 1999 and also runs a popular website called Swearnet.
Luke Cage
There are many Marvel shows still on Netflix – like Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and so on. While Daredevil is a close second, I think the bulletproof Luke Cage is the best of these shows. Method Man even makes an appearance as an actor in the series, and we are all about the Way of the Wu here at Loud News. Netflix will soon lose most, if not all of these shows to Disney, as some corporate issues are going on with licensing – so beware of that. We aren’t sure the exact date, but Disney won’t let an ounce of Marvel go to waste.
Hip Hop Evolution
Hip Hop heads who have a Netflix subscription owe it to themselves to check this show in its entirety. I find it hard to believe even the most knowledgeable fan of the genre won’t learn something. If you want to get a head start before watching this dope series, head on over and peep our ongoing series on Weed in Hip Hop culture.
Best Streaming Shows on Amazon Prime Video
Long Strange Trip
Any Deadhead or even casual fans of this seminal band’s music would probably enjoy binge-watching this documentary on the Grateful Dead. It follows the lives of each musician and showcases how the band was an unlikely success story for 30 years – because of how differently they were musically, and how they hated studio recordings.
The Marijuana Show
This show is basically like Shark Tank for the cannabis industry. Various ganjapreneurs get a chance to pitch their business or idea to would-be investors. Some are savvier and interesting than others. Any cannabis industry professional or hopeful would probably enjoy watching this show.
T-Pain’s School of Business
Did you know T-Pain was a businessman? Neither did I before I watched this. T-Pain articulately and often hilariously interacts with entrepreneurs who are innovating and disrupting their respective sectors. Worth a watch for any fan of T-Pain or someone interested in innovative small to medium-sized businesses.
